AANR-West Promotes the Social Nudist Movement
at Local Trade Shows

Each year, AANR-West staffs an information booth at several strategic trade shows around the region. These shows are selected based upon size (number of people attending), probable interest in social nudism, and the ability of a local club to help staff the event.  In the past few years we have been at the Quartzite RV Show in Arizona, billed as the largest RV show in the world (100,000 people for 10 days), the Los Angeles Travel and Adventure Show (35,000 to 40,000 people over a weekend), and the California Parks and Recreation Show (targeted at employees and managers of the 200+ parks and beaches in the state and often attended by state legislators and park officials). We have also found a lot of interest in nude recreation at various Earth Day fairs throughout the region.

Here are some photos and descriptions about our participation at these shows:

AANR-West Booth at L.A. Travel Show

As the deluge of the previous week finally let up, upwards of 35,000 people came out to the LA Travel and Adventure Show on Saturday and Sunday, 2/18 & 19, which returned this year to the LA Convention Center in downtown LA.

Amongst all the different travel destinations featured from around our beautiful nation and the world, travel products, and adventure opportunities, this year saw the addition of a bungee jumping station, a rock wall climbing tower, camel rides, and the Scuba diving pool! The Western Region of the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR-West) once again sponsored a booth at the show to talk to those attendees interested in exploring the places and opportunities for Nude recreation around the western USA.

We gave out loads of brochures and handouts from virtually all the clubs and resorts in the west. In addition, we had a prize wheel with promotional gifts provided by AANR-West to attract attention to the booth. The Clothing-Optional Home Network also provided 2-Night stays at three of their B&B’s, Arroyo Del Sol in Altadena, Lagoon Del Sol in Phoenix, and Alpenglow in Oregon, which were raffled off. Glen Eden Nudist Resort also provided a couple of nice plush embroidered towels as consolation prizes in the raffle.

Compared to previous years, we spoke to a much higher percentage of people who were closet skinny-dippers themselves looking for other places to go.
This year a greater number of these were women instead of men.

As in years past we had a variety of SCNA members, a large contingent of NitOC members (including young Bella and Jacob), and a couple of GE members help to staff the booth during the weekend. After she rode the camel, climbed the rock tower and went Scuba diving, we let Bella oversee our prize wheel and the result was a line of smiling faces waiting to spin the wheel for a prize!

Like last year we had more females who stopped by to talk express an interest and openness in local nude recreation opportunities than did males.

California Parks and Recreation Show

This show rotates between Long Beach and Sacramento ever other year. Pictured are Gary Mussell, Helen O’Neill, Mike Glinzak. They, plus Ron Weiner, staffed the booth all three days.  We had many useful conversations with people representing various local cities, as well as some state parks staffers.

“The booth looked fabulous! We are completely depleted of every brochure from every club there possibly is. I just sent you a enough hopefully for year. Our booth was extremely popular all day.  Many asked who we were, and when we explained we were nudists, many of the people smiled and asked was there a resort nearby that they could visit? I gave out free passes to people that were interested.  As far as the spiffs, they were great every spiff was gone by 3 PM. Nothing was left: no brochures, no literature, nothing!!  Next year, we will be sure to have a raffle and giveaway for a weekend at a local resort!

The director of Earth Day and the lady in charge were directly behind my booth the entire time. She said we did fabulous, and she hopes we come back again next year - Kim.
