07/20/13 - Over fifty nudists representing three Southern California clubs came together to experience a first for Los Angeles – being nude while enjoying a museum of nude art.
The El Segundo Museum of Art’s (ESMoA) special exhibit, called “Truth,” contains 37 works from the private collection of Brian and Eva Sweeny. SCNA was honored to be asked to view the various works of art representing a wide range of artists covering six centuries of work and many different styles from the Middle Ages to Picasso to Maplethorpe.
Everyone seemed to admire both Carolein Smit’s “Golden Tears,” a sculpture made of gold beads and string, as well as Stephan Balkenhol’s “Weiblicher Akt,” a nude figure carved from a single piece of wood.
SCNA provided wine and cheese to the guests in the foyer (a special thanks to the David Johnson family for their donation of the wine and for staffing the booth). A clothes check closet was also available in the back for people to safely stow their belongings.
About an hour into the show, Rolf welcomed everyone from the upstairs balcony, and he introduced Christina Lindhardt, whose operatic voice serenaded us with a wide range of selections, from folk songs to Bizet’s Carmen and Puccini’s La Boheme.
A film crew from CFI (Clothes Free International) was also in the room and covered the event for their “Nudes In The News” podcast. They interviewed many of the guests. Later, Chelsea Hogan, ESMoA’s Education Specialist, who was our host, gave members a guided tour of her favorite show pieces.
A few days after the event, the Huffington Post, posted a story about it on their news web site.
“Wow! SCNA really outdid themselves this time. How can they top this event? Incredible art, and the opera singer, Christina, was amazing...” – We received this email the day after the event from one of the guests. If you were there, you know that it pretty much sums up how everyone felt.
